A Congressman Loaded Up on Micron Weeks Before Its 183% Run

A sitting member of Congress put up to a quarter of a million dollars into Micron on February 3, weeks before the stock went on one of the great runs of 2026. We track every congressional trade, and this one stood out the moment it was disclosed.

On February 3, Representative Cleo Fields disclosed a purchase of Micron Technology (MU) stock valued between $100,001 and $250,000. Micron closed that day at $419.44. The filing hit the public record on February 24. It was the single largest Micron purchase by any member of Congress in our congress stock tracking over the trailing six months. For comparison, the other congressional Micron buys in that window, from Josh Gottheimer, John Fetterman, and Gilbert Cisneros, clustered around the $1,001 to $15,000 range. Fields was operating at a different scale entirely.

What happened next

From $419.44 on February 3, Micron detonated. The stock traded above $1,180 by June 22, a gain of roughly 183% in under five months. The move was driven by a memory shortage that pushed DRAM and high-bandwidth memory pricing sharply higher, record fiscal Q2 results, and a wave of analyst target hikes. Micron reported $12.20 in quarterly earnings per share against a $9.31 estimate, with revenue of $23.86 billion. Whatever the reasoning behind a February entry, the timing landed just ahead of one of the great runs of 2026.

Signal or coincidence

Large, concentrated purchases by individual lawmakers draw scrutiny for an obvious reason. Members of Congress sit on committees, receive briefings, and have access to information ordinary investors do not. We take no position on whether any particular trade reflects nonpublic information, and a disclosed purchase is not evidence of wrongdoing. What we can say is that the pattern, a single outsized buy weeks before a major repricing, is exactly the kind of event that retail investors deserve to see in real time rather than reading about months later. The disclosure rules give politicians up to 45 days to report. That lag is the entire problem.

Where the data sits now

Micron currently carries an AI Score of 61, which lands in buy territory. The score is anchored by an strong sentiment and audience signal, reflecting the surge in mentions and search interest around the memory trade, alongside four straight quarters of earnings beats and revenue that nearly tripled year over year in the latest quarter. The weaker spots are hiring, with job postings down 2.7% month over month, and a fundamental picture stretched by a P/E above 50. The stock is no longer cheap, and recent insider activity has been selling rather than buying. The setup that rewarded a February buyer is not the same setup facing a buyer today.

The bottom line

Cleo Fields bought up to $250,000 of Micron at $419.44 on February 3 and watched it climb roughly 183% before most investors even knew the trade existed, an edge that came down to timing and access rather than stock picking. We built our congressional trade tracking to close exactly that gap, surfacing these filings the moment they land and pairing them with the AI Scores, hiring data, and insider activity that tell you whether a lawmaker's buy is backed by the kind of signal worth following.
