Americans and Europeans are Skeptical About the Future with AI; One in Five Willing to Use AI Apps in Daily Life

September 29, 2:02 pm

The number of people using AI tools has nearly tripled in the past four years, jumping from 115 million in 2020 to 314 million in 2024. Although this figure is expected to grow significantly in the future, with more consumers and companies embracing artificial intelligence tools, some countries have more AI enthusiasts than others.

According to data presented by AltIndex.com, only one in five Europeans and Americans are willing to use AI apps in daily life, much less than in most other countries.

India, Nigeria, and Vietnam Have Twice as many AI Enthusiasts as the United States and Europe

Although the number of people embracing artificial intelligence tools, mostly generative AI, has snowballed over the past few years, the perception about using AI apps in daily life significantly varies worldwide. Surprisingly, the countries with the largest AI user count have the least AI enthusiasts.

According to a recent survey by Statista Consumer Insights, the world`s two largest AI markets, the United States and China, are not even in the top five regarding willingness to use AI apps in daily life, losing the race with countries like India, Nigeria, or Vietnam.

According to the survey, India counts the most AI enthusiasts, with 49% of respondents saying they are excited about the prospect of using tools like ChatGPT. Nigeria, Vietnam, and UAE followed with 47% and 45%, respectively. In fact, the Statista data show most respondents across the polled Asian and Middle Eastern nations answered positively. This was the case in Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, and China, which had 41%, 39%, 38%, 37%, and 35% of AI enthusiasts, much more than European countries or the United States.

Statistics showed European nations appear to be generally more skeptical or at least less enthused by the technology, with the share of respondents willing to use AI in daily life ranging from 23% to 27%.

On the other hand, North America had more of a mixed picture, with just one in five US adults being excited about AI, versus 28% of respondents in Canada and Mexico. These data align with findings from the Ipsos survey, which showed Asia is the most enthusiastic about a future with AI.

Close to 730 Million People Will Use AI Tools by the End of a Decade

Despite the lack of enthusiasm for AI tools in some countries, the number of AI users will continue surging globally. In fact, Statista expects user growth to speed up in the following years, with the market adding more than 70 million users annually.

The surging demand for automation and optimization across industries, the increasing use of AI in consumer-facing applications, and growing investments in AI research and development will help the AI market reach 730 million users by 2030, or 132% more than this year.
